What is the purpose of falling?

When you allow yourself to truly fall, you do two things. Firstly, you cannot fake a real fall. You must trust your body to catch you. And when you truly fall, you allow your body to speak with truth. You engage those motor instincts that challenge your body to find its best means of getting you to the floor with grace and ease. This grace and ease happens when you allow the potential energy stored in your body to be triggered completely. Your body also learns to absorb the energy that the floor/ground gives back. There is always an exchange of energy when objects meet. The floor is a cushion of energy in reality.  Keep your body attuned to the energy that it gets from the floor/ground and use it to get yourself off the floor/ground. Imagine a pushing and pulling going on between you and the floor.

Secondly, falling gets you into your preconscious mind. Falling quickly pulls you out of your conscious mind into an open space where risk is at the heart of everything. Thoughts stop and shear movement fills the void. When you are in this state of mind your body can move as it wishes free of the constraints of embarrassment, self-monitoring, criticism, self-doubt, etc.. And as noted above, the flow of energy in your body gives you access to the level of intelligence which resides in your preconscious mind.

Falling also fosters movement meditation.
