What is the difference between performing movement and reliving movement?
Movement that is performed in front of an audience is a product of the conscious mind. Performed movement is choreographed movement. It is movement that has been imposed on other people’s bodies. It is the conscious mind’s idea of what a body’s true movement story might be. It lacks honesty, integrity, and immediacy. This performed movement does not connect with other body’s stories because it does not come from a body’s experience.
ShapeShifting is all about your body telling its own story through movement. When it tells its story, it relives it through movement; it re-experiences what it knows. This is both a healing and meditative process. When you enter your preconscious mind, your body is set free to tell its story. This happens spontaneously, without conscious thought. This story is instantly recognized by other bodies as honest, true, and immediate. Other bodies connect with your body and are set free in the process.
